Introduction
Have you ever had that friend or co-worker who just doesn't seem to get it? You excuse their uncomfortable behavior over and over again because you try to be an understanding person but the more it happens, the more you sacrifice your own comfort for their feelings. What do you do?
How can you help them? You can't just tell them the way they live their life is wrong. And it isn't. But if they want to fit into your life, then they have to be open to change and improvement because we're not obligated to accommodate others at our own expense. We have built a circle around us that consists of people who mesh well with our own personalities. If someone wants to be in that circle, they must be willing to adjust. We're not asking for perfection, it's just that some are further from perfect than others. Let's help them even the playing field, shall we?
In this blog, we'll be pointing out common social cues and social no-no's to help people become more self-aware and socially-aware. This blog is in no way a slight towards anyone who finds a bit of themselves in these pieces. They are simply here to help you if you're open to some feedback. Hopefully, by the end of this journey, you'll recognize the social cues from the people in your life and be able to use them to strengthen your relationships.
The first step when self-reflecting is to step away from the lens. If you need this blog then chances are you've been living your life constantly with your eye in the camera and because of this, you miss a lot of what goes on around you. Step back and observe. Look around. Try to analyze the effects your actions create on others. Ask yourself why?
Second, humility is admired. It's okay to admit you are guilty of any no-no's. The important thing is that you are actively trying to change and improve. So without further ado, let's begin.
